My child enjoys memorising short surahs, but their reading is weak. Do we have to stop memorisation?

Usually not. Memorisation can continue in a measured way while part of the lesson is used to strengthen reading, especially when learning surahs keeps the child motivated. The important thing is not to let memorisation hide a reading gap that will become harder later.
